There is an Olympic size swimming pool about 100 yards from the school building. I went there at the lunch break to swim some laps. Just as I got there a loud thunder clap shook the place and the officials immediately closed the pool. The dark clouds were closing in fast. Then one of the lifeguards came out and told me not to leave, because the rain would probably pass in about 20 minutes. So, I purchased (for less than a dollar) some kind of food from a cart vendor who had just walked up. It was some kind of meat in a pita pocket and I was reluctant to ask what it was, but it was warm and tasted great. Just about that time the rain came, so I stood there looking out over a small grassy, area eating whatever it was I had purchased and noticed two boys about 16 or 17 (every school in Panama is on vacation this week) kicking a soccer ball in the rain. They were wearing no shirts or shoes. It was obvious that the point of their play was to see who could keep he ball in the air the longest while doing tricks with the ball that you would not believe. One of them bounced the ball off his head while he jogged the entire length of the field, probably 50 yards. When he got to the other side he stopped, bent forward and let the ball roll down his back and off his butt. He kicked it back over his head with his heel, caught it with the top of his foot, turned around, bounced it up in the air and then kicked it all the way to the other end of the field where his friend was waiting for his turn. I stood there for 20 minutes while it rained and watched those two young men make the most outrageous tricks look effortless. Even more amazing, there were about 10 people standing around where I was and none of them were watching the free soccer clinic. Soccer talent must be everywhere here. The lifeguard knew Panamanian weather because in precisely 20 minutes the rain stopped and they opened the pool.
As for school, my head is so full of Spanish words that I can't remember any of them.
I'm really sorry about not having any pictures posted, but for some reason when I got here and got on the Internet, the dashboard of the blog (the tool from which everything is posted) turned to Spanish which slows down considerably trying to figure out how to post pictures. I know, I should have figured that out before I got here. I have tons of homework, so by the time I get that done, eat with the family, call home and write a post for the blog, it's really really late. I'll figure it out this weekend.

Thanks for the great recap of your day. Reading it makes us feel like we are experiencing this trip as well. It reminds us of how we need to stop and remember the simple things in life. We really enjoyed your story about the rain and the soccer players. We look forward to hearing more about your trip.
Love,
Tim and Gina Koch

Yes, probably with his "heel" . . .
BUT, if you or I were to try this, I'm sure some "heal"-ing would be necessary!
